Plot and Setup

Olivia Perkins is a very successful romance writer who's
having writer's block after a heart-wrenching breakup. Her best friend
persuades her to get away on an adventure to the tropical Haven Isles, where
she will change her life.
Meanwhile, Prince Alexander desires some relief from royal
duties and the plans for his future of his family. When he arrives on the same
island under an assumed name, he hopes for some quiet days off the palace.
The two meet and slowly begin to get closer. Their
relationship gets complicated when their real identity starts to come to the
fore of Alexander.
If you have watched other royal romances, you will understand the direction most of the story will take. The movie doesn't veer too far off the beaten path, nor does it attempt to be shocking.
What Works
The setting of a film is its greatest asset, and that's
what the island provides. The beaches and sunny climate breathe a new
excitement into the film, in contrast to many royal romances set in castles and
wintertime.
There is natural chemistry between Rhiannon Fish and
Mitchell Bourke. They perform in a cinematic style that’s perfect for the film
and allow the romance to be savoured.
The wildlife conservation plot was also nice. It adds colour
to Prince Alexander and makes him appear more than another good-looking Prince
seeking out love.
What Does Not Work
The story is highly predictable. Most of the viewers will
know what will happen to the movie in the first twenty minutes
The middle section slows down. The secret identity plot
dominates too much of the story, and there are few surprises till the end.
The film might be too predictable for those seeking more
emotional moments or complicated characters.

I loved the tone of the book more than the plot. I wanted
to do a holiday rather than think about romance more than the island setting
did.
That's not a criticism, it's a warning. There are movies
that make you feel better and relax, and this one does just that.
I wouldn't rank A Royal in the top ten of the latest romantic movies, but a quiet Sunday afternoon will find me wanting to watch it.
